Morsi is no longer president of Egypt after largest protests in history

Ahmed Samir - To all my non Egyptian friends that are getting their news from the Western media. What is happening now in Egypt is NOT a military coup. It's the People's Revolution against a fascist, fanatic regime. 33 million Egyptians are out in the streets to kick Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood OUT once and for all. The media, especially CNN is depicting the picture that they want you to believe since the American administration supports this fanatic, terrorist government. The Egyptians have spoken with a completely free will power to change this country around. The army is by our side to protect us and protect our beloved Egypt.

DRESS CODE PROJECT opens Nov. 21, 7-9pm

DRESS CODE PROJECT.

Group exhibition, curated by Amel Makkawi and Martina Corgnati.

Exhibition Dates: November 21st - December 21st

Opening reception: 7:00 - 9:30 pm

Artists: Ahmed Al Bahrani, Fadi Yazigi, Fatma Bucak, Ghassan Ghaib, Mahmoud Al Obaidi, Marya Kazoun, Nayza H. Khan, Nermine Hammam, Rachida Azadaou, Samta Benyahia, Sumayyah Al Suwaidi, Zena Assi and Issam Barhouch.

About the exhibition:

"...We must not imagine that “art work in form of dress” has resulted in the production of wearable objects that reflect the pattern of “Dress Code”. This pattern, for the participants, was simply a memory, an empty container, an elastic theme. Their works, indeed, cover all the techniques and forms of expression: from collage to multimedia, from video to photography to installation ... to “dresses”, but not conceived to be wearable. The protagonist of “Dress Code” are twelve: all together they cover a vast area of cultures and countries, extended from Algeria to Pakistan and from Turkey to Egypt to the Emirates, via Syria, Lebanon and Iraq."

Shocking Video: 'Blue bra' girl brutally beaten by Egypt military

Shocking Video: 'Blue bra' girl brutally beaten by Egypt military
www.youtube.com
The blog-o-sphere is boiling at the cruel beating of a female protester by Egyptian military police, who continued battling protesters in Tahrir Square on Sunday. The clashes, into their third day now, have left 10 people dead and hundreds injured. The video uploaded on YouTube Sunday reveals the extreme cruelty of the country's law enforcers during the crackdown. The army soldiers in full riot gear have been savagely beating a seemingly unconscious female protester with big sticks, kicking her and stomping on her chest. Security forces lashed out ruthlessly on armless civilians and burned down tents that had been put up by activists outside the parliament building to camp in protest against the military rule. The internet community therefore questions the methods of the military regime who took over power after the ousting of the ex-President Hosni Mubarak in February.

a woman posts a nude photo of herself on her blog, and Egypt goes nuts!

I've been wanting to post something on this for a few days now but have been hesitant since most of the facebook posts that I have seen contained a copy of the offending image (and I do not want to get in any kind of trouble - given where I currently live and work!)  ...then Nicholas Kristof comes to the rescue:

So a woman posts a nude photo of herself on her blog, and Egypt goes nuts:http://nyti.ms/vOPw6F . It's so sad, because there are plenty of things that Egyptians should be going nuts about, not least the way the military council is arresting and torturing people to stay in power. Earlier this year, from Cairo I wrote about how the army was arresting female democracy activists and subjecting them to forcible "virginity exams" as a way to humiliate them:http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/27/opinion/27kristof.html . Now, that's a great reason for a conservative country to be outraged, but most Egyptians shrugged and said that the young women were probably hussies anyway. The issue died. I wish we could accept that what's really horrific and offensive isn't a woman who chooses not to wear clothes but rather a woman who is forced to wear a veil or burka. Your thoughts?

www.nytimes.com
Aliaa Magda Elmahdy had to expect outrage from conservative Muslims when she posted nude photographs of herself online. But liberals have been critical, too.
