chasing dancing giants...

Had another dream where I was searching for the giant dancing gods of Taiwan (performed during Taoist religious festivals). This is the second this year... the first dream was on New Years Eve 2014 and the second was a week later on my Birthday... I have not had a dream like this in many years... is it a coincidence that I will be traveling to Taiwan this April, the first time since 2008, before I had moved to Kuwait? Click on this video link to hear all the fireworks and hypnotic ritual music and to see how these giant gods dance (the photos are mine but not the video - however the video is at my favorite temple in Taipei, close to where I used to live) and make sure to see the dramatic end of the video! Also note that these photos and video are taken during the day so are clearer but most often these festivals take place at night - making them much more mysterious - in my dreams of chasing these dancing giants it is always at night)...

Their works, indeed, cover all the techniques and forms of expression: from collage to multimedia, from video to photography to installation ... to “dresses”, but not conceived to be wearable. The protagonist of “Dress Code” are twelve: all together they cover a vast area of cultures and countries, extended from Algeria to Pakistan and from Turkey to Egypt to the Emirates, via Syria, Lebanon and Iraq."

Greek contemporary art exhibition opens November 12th, 7-9pm

On November 12th, Dar Al-Funoon will be presenting a contemporary Greek group exhibition, bringing together three artists working in a range of mediums, from photography, painting, and furniture design. Their works make a bold statement for new directions in Greek contemporary art today.

The show will feature unique & sophisticated armchairs from Natassa Georgopoulou’s Chair Affairs collection. Each armchair is transformed in a field of setting trends in design and fashion, creating fascinating and intriguing human characters. Her work has been published in Vogue magazine, design magazines and newspapers.

Also included is photographic series by Christos Katsios entitled Liquid Mirror. His unique style and professionalism has brought him up in the top positions of global photographers and undisputed lead photographer in Mykonos Island.

In addition, Buenos Aires born Greek artist Dionysios Proios Rallatos will showcase his painting series entitled By Heart. Rallatos began painting from a very early age, and participated in shows in Argentina, Brazil, and Greece.

Portraits of local artists and traditional market workers in the Daein Market that reflect on the consolidation of multinational corporations’ hegemony over the shaping of peoples’ tastes and sense of identity around the globe, a topic especially pertinent now in South Korea where the highly divisive Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the United States just went into effect March 15, 2012. The portraits combine photography with Korean calligraphy and are mounted as traditional scrolls. My solo exhibition, entitled '…occurrences in dislocation' will be at Han Pyeong Gallery and the Mite-Ugro Archive in the Daein Market, Gwangju, South Korea from September 5 to October 4, 2012.
